Greek Folk Dancing is not about learning steps but learning to express yourself though your understanding and interpreting the music, where you learn to vary the number of the steps as you improvise and show some of your personality through the dancing.

Our goal is not for the students to “dance” mirror image perfectly synchronised steps but to move freely and be able to express their personality through movement and their interpretation of the music. To learn to work as a team and learn leadership. To gain confidence and courage when in front of an audience which will also benefit them in their normal life beyond their dancing.

Today most people assume that singers sing traditional songs, but there is a category of songs that is rapidly disappearing. Songs that accompany dances without musical accompaniment. With these dances they don’t hold hands like in regular songs but hold “hilikota” or “stavrota” in this way being much closer to each other and better able to hear each other sing and keep in time. In general, the pace of these songs was slow and not energetic so as the dancers could sing and dance.
