The Greek Community of Melbourne and the Antipodes Festival is delighted to announce that Pantelis Thalassinos will be performing a free concert at the 2012 Lonsdale Street on Saturday 25 February. Thalassinos has one of the greatest voices in Greece, with lyrics that have moved and inspired thousands.

An evening of Greek song and Classical operatic repertoire presented by the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne & Victoria in support of a young Greek artist's academic and musical study aspirations in Europe. 4pm, Sunday 20 November Greek Community Centre Level 3, 168 Lonsdale Street $15
Mr. Lambis Englezos will deliver a speech about his research on the missing Australians in the Battle of Fromelles.
Mr. Englezos received the Order of Australia for his Fromelles work.
Lambis Englezos AM, amateur historian and school teacher was responsible for discovering mass war graves from World War 1 near Fromelles in France.
Lambis' interest in Fromelles developed from the respect he has for the survivors, some of whom he met in the 1990s. Since 2002, Mr Englezos, has gathered evidence to back claim that aerial photos sourced from the Imperial War Museum showed graves behind German lines in 1916 and recovered the missing soldiers.

A special concert by a new Greek ensemble of Melbourne musicians (and one from Adelaide) who perform traditional music of the region, to its most authentic form. The instruments and musical style of this ensemble typify the old meyhané traditions whilst expanding to encompass the captivating sounds of the wider Eastern Mediterranean. Meyhané brings together Lambros Kappas, Paddy Montgomery, George Kirakidis, Demetris Hoplaros and Tony iliou on Yayli Tanbur, Saz, Oud, Violin, Lute, Percussions and accordion.
Join them on a colourful journey from the Balkans to Anatolia, and the Black Sea to the southern shores of the Aegean.
One of the most important and revered figures of the Greek popular music known as ‘rebetika’, Agathonas – is touring Australia for the very first time in June of this year.
A founding member of the seminal rebetiko* group Rebetiko Synkrotima tis Thessalonikis, Agathonas is considered one of the finest proponents of the musical form commonly referred to as Greek blues.

Melbourne’s Greek- Australian poets and musicians are celebrating the work of renowned modern Greek poet Nikos Kavvadias who penned Yara Yara and The Southern Cross.
Antipodes Festival is proud to present Amphibian Fate, a bilingual poetry and music night in honour of the poet of the sea, Nikos Kavvadias, on June 5 at Melba Hall.

Women leaders from Victoria’s ethnic community organisations will come together in June for a forum examining women’s participation and leadership in community organisations. The inaugural forum will provide an opportunity for women from diverse cultural backgrounds to network, share experiences and discuss common issues relating to their involvement in ethnic community organisations.
The Australian Hellenic Cricket Federation will be holding a 20/20 cricket carnival between the best Australian Cricketers of Hellenic heritage.
