Politiki kouzina - the food of Constantinople Tuesday 29 June, 7 pm The food of Constantinople is sumptuous, sophisticated and cosmopolitan and reflects the abundance of food that was available in the city that was capital to two major empires - the Byzantine and the Ottoman. Father and son team Thomas and Stavros Konis will bring alive the rich aromatic joys of politiki kouzina - the cuisine of the Polis - with a six course degustation menu based on old family recipes and matched with premium Greek wines chosen by sommelier Anna Lazarakis. The rustic food of Messinia Dimitra Melios presents food from Messinia, the home of Kalamata olives. The region in the south west corner of the Peloponnese is renowned for its rustic food prepared with fresh garden vegetables, tomato sauces perfumed with cinnamon and generous amounts of locally produced extra virgin olive oil. Dimitra Melios will lovingly prepare three courses of home style Messinian cooking. The food will be matched with microbrewed Craft Beer from Greece. Cost $60 (inc. beverages)

Its traditional foods such as kolokasi, ravioles, koupepia, pastourma and shamisi - reflect a myriad of influences from north, south, east and west.
