Eleftheria Arvanitaki is one of the most respected contemporary Greek pop folk singer. She started her career in 1980, with the group Opisthodromiki Kompania (Retrograde Company). She broke away from the group and started a solo career in 1984 with her album Eleftheria Arvanitaki. August 2004 she participated in the closing ceremony of the Athens Olympics where she performed Orion by Phillip Glass.  She is regarded as an innovator who transcends style and genres, Arvanitaki is equally comfortable with folk, pop and jazz as she is with rock and contemporary classical. She has starred in WOMAD and other festivals. Her contract with Universal's Jazz label Verve Records, Eleftheria Arvanitaki’s music has enjoyed international release and exposure.

Eleftheria Arvanitaki is presented by the Arts Centre, Multicultural Arts Victoria and the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne Victoria, as part of Mix It Up.
